๐ค How To Make Better Decisions Without Overthinking The Shit Out Of Them ๐ค
Internal or External Orientated?
Greetings Idea Orchestrators ไท
This newsletter is our rebellious way to poke holes in the neurotypical status quo.
It will help you in four ways ๐
๐ง 1) It will give you tips and hacks to leverage your multipotentiality to maximise your creative potential
๐ง 2) It will help you deconsruct the social conditioning that keeps you stuck
๐ง 3) It will help you embrace the creative archetypes within you to build authentic and impactful niches
๐ง 4) Interviews and insights from successful multipotentialite creators, disrutptors and creative entreprenuers
It may be because of this โฌ๏ธ
โก๏ธ Are you externally orientated or internally orientated?
Robert Greene drops a truth bomb: "One of them is powerful, the other is incredibly weak, and it will destroy you."
This isnโt just about creativityโitโs productivity survival.
Oooh, the drama!
Being driven by external validation?
Thatโs the perfectionist archetype curse.
After 28 years in the music industry, I watched perfectionism rob the potential of more creative geniuses than anything else.
If youโre shackled by the chains of public opinion:
๐ You will never develop your true creative voice
๐ Youโll ping-pong between other peopleโs opinions
๐ Youโll never feel the inner peace of authentic creativity.
๐ Your confidence will get shredded.
๐ And yeah, kiss creative productivity's ass goodbye.
Thereโs a way outโthough it ainโt easyโฆ
โ
Thereโs only two ways to create stuff ๐
๐ 1) Try to second guess exactly what the audience wants, then deliver it on a silver platter.
โก๏ธ Good luck with that. Audiences donโt even know what they want until they see it.
โก๏ธ This means youโll get stuck in indecision
โก๏ธ Youโll aim to please everyone and will thrill no one. Your project? Dead on arrival.
Or
๐ 2) Forge something from your soul. Find the tribe that gets it.
Thatโs the mark of a true authentic creator.
You feel it in your bones. Youโre not stuck in analysis paralysis, scared by a sea of possibilities.
Weโre shit at making decisions, right? We overthink the shit out of well, everything.
So make this one change to be more decisive in your creative projects.
๐ง Example? Letโs talk T-shirts.
๐ง I dig black. So I make a black T-shirt.
๐ง Simple, right?
๐ง But creating something for me its easy to make creative decisions. I know what I like
๐ง Flip it:
If Iโm obsessing over what the audience wantsโฆ Some want black, others brown, pink, green, and blue T-shirts.
โ Result? Iโm a hot mess of confusion.
โ Whatโs next? I face multiple creative decisions.
โ I overthink the shit out of it. This creates stress and anxiety.
โ Result? Nada.
Creating something? If you're hung up on pleasing the audience, you're more likely to ditch the project out of fear of flopping.
Second - guessing what the audience wantsโฆ
๐ Just piles on more decisions
๐ Turns your creative vision into a complex mess
๐ Cranks up the overthinking
Decision making? Not my forte. Probably not yours, either.
To unleash creativity, strip it down. Create constraints.
Create shit that sets your heart on fire.
You know what you love. You donโt need to overthink the shit out of it!
Once youโve nailed something epic, find folk who agree with you.
Get your ideas into the world, you can iterate and adapt from there if you want.
The audience comes last as Rick Rubin says
This isnโt revolutionary. Itโs how authentic creator icons are made.
True artists like David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchellโdidnโt wait for a fan poll to innovate.
โAll my big mistakes are when I try to second-guess or please an audience. My work is always stronger when I get very selfish about it.โ โ David Bowie
Taylor Swiftโs transition from a country to pop star, wasnโt because her fans wanted it, it was because she needed to do it.
Even in the biz worldโthink Steve Jobs and Henry Ford. No focus groups, just vision.
That doesn't mean we shouldnโt iterate based on the market, it just means to ship your work.
Get it out there.
Then iterate and adapt if thatโs what you want to do.
Weโre all visionaries.
We think differently. Itโs literally how our brains are wired.
So why limit that by people pleasing an audience?
If we just tune in to our internal compass.
The world doesnโt know what it wants because you havenโt created it yet.
Hope this helps.
Peace out โ๏ธ
