π€ How To Make Better Decisions Without Overthinking The Shit Out Of Them π€
Internal or External Orientated?
Greetings Idea Orchestrators δ·
This newsletter is our rebellious way to poke holes in the neurotypical status quo.
It will help you in four ways π
π§ 1) It will give you tips and hacks to leverage your multipotentiality to maximise your creative potential
π§ 2) It will help you deconsruct the social conditioning that keeps you stuck
π§ 3) It will help you embrace the creative archetypes within you to build authentic and impactful niches
π§ 4) Interviews and insights from successful multipotentialite creators, disrutptors and creative entreprenuers
It may be because of this β¬οΈ
β‘οΈ Are you externally orientated or internally orientated?
Robert Greene drops a truth bomb: "One of them is powerful, the other is incredibly weak, and it will destroy you."
This isnβt just about creativityβitβs productivity survival.
Oooh, the drama!
Being driven by external validation?
Thatβs the perfectionist archetype curse.
After 28 years in the music industry, I watched perfectionism rob the potential of more creative geniuses than anything else.
If youβre shackled by the chains of public opinion:
π You will never develop your true creative voice
π Youβll ping-pong between other peopleβs opinions
π Youβll never feel the inner peace of authentic creativity.
π Your confidence will get shredded.
π And yeah, kiss creative productivity's ass goodbye.
Thereβs a way outβthough it ainβt easyβ¦
β
Thereβs only two ways to create stuff π
π 1) Try to second guess exactly what the audience wants, then deliver it on a silver platter.
β‘οΈ Good luck with that. Audiences donβt even know what they want until they see it.
β‘οΈ This means youβll get stuck in indecision
β‘οΈ Youβll aim to please everyone and will thrill no one. Your project? Dead on arrival.
Or
π 2) Forge something from your soul. Find the tribe that gets it.
Thatβs the mark of a true authentic creator.
You feel it in your bones. Youβre not stuck in analysis paralysis, scared by a sea of possibilities.
Weβre shit at making decisions, right? We overthink the shit out of well, everything.
So make this one change to be more decisive in your creative projects.
π§ Example? Letβs talk T-shirts.
π§ I dig black. So I make a black T-shirt.
π§ Simple, right?
π§ But creating something for me its easy to make creative decisions. I know what I like
π§ Flip it:
If Iβm obsessing over what the audience wantsβ¦ Some want black, others brown, pink, green, and blue T-shirts.
β Result? Iβm a hot mess of confusion.
β Whatβs next? I face multiple creative decisions.
β I overthink the shit out of it. This creates stress and anxiety.
β Result? Nada.
Creating something? If you're hung up on pleasing the audience, you're more likely to ditch the project out of fear of flopping.
Second - guessing what the audience wantsβ¦
π Just piles on more decisions
π Turns your creative vision into a complex mess
π Cranks up the overthinking
Decision making? Not my forte. Probably not yours, either.
To unleash creativity, strip it down. Create constraints.
Create shit that sets your heart on fire.
You know what you love. You donβt need to overthink the shit out of it!
Once youβve nailed something epic, find folk who agree with you.
Get your ideas into the world, you can iterate and adapt from there if you want.
The audience comes last as Rick Rubin says
This isnβt revolutionary. Itβs how authentic creator icons are made.
True artists like David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchellβdidnβt wait for a fan poll to innovate.
βAll my big mistakes are when I try to second-guess or please an audience. My work is always stronger when I get very selfish about it.β β David Bowie
Taylor Swiftβs transition from a country to pop star, wasnβt because her fans wanted it, it was because she needed to do it.
Even in the biz worldβthink Steve Jobs and Henry Ford. No focus groups, just vision.
That doesn't mean we shouldnβt iterate based on the market, it just means to ship your work.
Get it out there.
Then iterate and adapt if thatβs what you want to do.
Weβre all visionaries.
We think differently. Itβs literally how our brains are wired.
So why limit that by people pleasing an audience?
If we just tune in to our internal compass.
The world doesnβt know what it wants because you havenβt created it yet.
Hope this helps.
Peace out βοΈ
